Process Engineer/formulator Pharmaceutical Development

MSD is the largest pharmaceutical company in the Netherlands. R&D pilot plant manufacturing facilities are located in the US, Ireland and the Netherlands.

The Development Center Oss (DCO) in the Netherlands is part of the R&D organization of Merck Research Laboratories (MRL). The PSCS (Pharmaceutical Sciences & Clinical Supplies) department employs approximately 100 specialists, who develop pharmaceutical dosage forms in an environment where they are free to develop creative solutions on their own or as part of a team.
The Pharmaceutical Sciences department develops new forms of administering existing medicines using advanced technologies for formulating, producing and analyzing these products. Some 100 highly trained scientists from varied backgrounds work in this innovative and inspiring department.

You devise, set up and conduct experiments, independently or in a team. You investigate what effects specific physical properties have on the process and the products. You develop a process that can be scaled up and is transferable. The position combines practical experimental work with reporting work (~40%). You work with colleagues in multidisciplinary project teams to develop products. Projects last on average 2 to 3 years. All reporting is done in English. Developing oral (combination) pharmaceutical products/processes.

• Designing, conducting and reporting on experiments, independently or in a team.
• Knowledge of the effects of physical properties of base materials on process and product.
• Thorough knowledge of scale-up and transferring production processes.
• Keeping up-to-date on specialist literature.
• Writing research reports and presenting and detailing proposals in English.

• university or higher professional education, (e.g. pharmaceutical technology, food science and technology, chemical technology, applied physics)
• experience of production processes in the pharmaceutical industry, the food industry or in chemical technology
• has excellent oral and written skills in English
• is willing to travel intermittently
• service percentage: 80-100%
